India visa and OCI photo

Indian visa and OCI applications ask for a square colour photo (2×2 in / 51×51 mm; 600×600 pixels fits the upload limits) with a plain light background, the full face visible from the front and no glasses. The passport upload for applications abroad uses 630×810 pixels instead, which you can pick from the document list.

Rules change and some countries only accept photos taken by approved photographers or booths. Check your authority’s current requirements before you apply.

How it works

  1. Take a front-facing photo against a plain wall, no glasses, ears visible if possible.

What size does the Indian e-visa photo need?

A square JPEG between 350 and 1000 pixels per side works for the e-visa; 600×600 is a safe middle value.

Can I use this for the Indian passport?

In India the passport photo is taken at the Passport Seva Kendra. For applications abroad that need an upload, choose the 630×810 India passport format.
