Schengen visa photo (35×45 mm)

Schengen consulates and visa centres follow the ICAO standard: a 35×45 mm colour photo with the face (chin to crown) 32–36 mm high, looking straight at the camera, on a plain light background. This tool levels your eyes, sizes your head to the middle of that range and swaps in a light grey background.

Rules change and some countries only accept photos taken by approved photographers or booths. Check your authority’s current requirements before you apply.

Is the Schengen photo the same for all countries?

The size and head height are the same everywhere (ICAO). Some visa centres prefer a white rather than light grey background; switch the background above if yours does.

How recent does the photo need to be?

Not older than six months, and it should look like you do now.
